About the session
In analyzing access to medicines within healthcare systems in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), five key dimensions are commonly recognized. Four of these—drug availability, affordability for patients, geographical accessibility, and acceptability of treatments—have been well described and studied. However, the fifth dimension, the quality of medicines, remains insufficiently explored. This lack of documentation presents a significant challenge, particularly in African countries, where ensuring consistent access to safe, effective, and high-quality medicines remains a critical yet under-addressed issue.
