About Mey Jurdi

Dr. Mey Jurdi is a Professor of Environmental Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (NCSR), the Academic Sector Representative in the National Environmental Council and consultant to UN agencies such as WHO, UNIDO and ESCWA. Jurdi completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the American University of Beirut (BSc. in Environmental Health, Master of Public Health and PhD in Medical Sciences). She is an active researcher mainly in the fields of water quality assessment and management, sanitation, food safety, sustainable healthy cities and villages and healthy school environment. Currently, she is involved in various research and service activities, namely, the Associate Research Unit on potable water quality and management (NCSR-AUB-LAU-LU), the Health and Environment National Strategy (2016-21) and Arab Strategy (2017-30), and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programs in various settings such as households, schools, day care centers and health care facilities. She led on the FHS Dr Eugene G. Gangarosa WASH Initiative (Go WASH) launched November 8, 2019, at Emory University to empower communities, operators and policy makers to ensure access and sustainability of WASH programs beyond the SDG 6 targets of 2030. She also completed the development of the Health and Environment National Strategic Framework 2021-2026 that was launched on the World Health Day April 2022. Additionally, she determined the Vulnerability of the Healthcare Sector to Climate Change challenges and Emergencies and enhancing preparedness, response and recovery in 2023. Currently she is directing the MENA HUB on Advancing Research on Climate Change and Health (MARCH) funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) October 2024 - December 2028.
