About Robert McLean

Dr. Robert McLean is a Senior Program Specialist in Global Health at Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) where he leads IDRC’s flagship research program in climate and health – Advancing Research for Climate and Health (ARCH). Rob’s professional interests lie in understanding how human creativity can inspire and build a better world. Pursuing that aim, he has worked across public, private, NGO and academic sectors for more than twenty years. Rob has published about this experience in venues ranging from Nature to the Stanford Social Innovation Review, has been awarded major international research grants, and has contributed to the development of multiple large-scale international research partnerships. His new book, Scaling Impact: Innovation for the Public Good is published by Routledge, NYC, and translated into multiple languages. Rob’s postdoctoral studies at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute focused on knowledge co-production. He earned his Ph.D. in the Department of Medicine at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He holds an M.Sc. from the Global Development Institute of the University of Manchester, England, and two undergraduate degrees following studies at Carleton University, Canada and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
