About Christophe Bayer
Dr Bayer is a medical doctor by training, with a specialisation in epidemiology. He also holds a law degree (LL.B.). Dr Bayer is Head of the Division of Health Security and International Crisis Management at the German Federal Ministry of Health (MoH). Before joining the MoH, he gained several years of professional experience in public health, including at the World Health Organization and the Robert Koch Institute, and worked as a physician at Hamburg University Hospital. Dr Bayer has been working in the field of public health emergencies for almost two decades. During this time, he has been involved in various aspects of health crisis preparedness and emergency management, including the health of child soldiers in D.R. Congo, the 2014/15 Ebola outbreak in West Africa and the 2019 outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, crisis preparedness in the context of the G7 and G20, was responsible for various aspects of the German Covid-19 response and recently leading the German delegation for the IHR amendment process.
